3 Keys To Conscious Leadership
Oct 10, 2022He’s been a pharmaceutical leader for 20 years. Lately, Brian had been caught up in online training sessions not worth him attending. So he thought.
Brian was irritated when he joined me for a free leadership consultation. He shared what was going on, what he was thinking about some of his employees, and the feedback he’d given.
Me: “What was on your mind when you joined one of those training sessions?”
Brian: “I'm a key sponsor. I was nudged to attend and reflecting upon it felt it was my duty. But I don’t need any of these classes. I have my PA. Do you understand me, Camilla?”
The conversation continued.
I asked “Did you stay till the end where you could ask curious questions?”
“No, it was a monologue. Nothing new to learn. I left 10 minutes after the event had begun.”, Brian replied.
Brian was reliving the situation and clearly irritated.
He was a man in a power job. Charismatic. Successful. He had assembled a dream team who delivered outstanding results. He’d also recently observed the movement of people leaving his team and that of silent quitting.

Brian thought he was a conscious leader. He thought he was open-minded and prepared to adjust his thoughts. But he wasn’t. He was below the line of how great leaders act.
Leaders below the line judge, are defensive and committed to being right. They often view challenges through the lens of a victim.

2. What triggers you? Great leaders observe themselves in the moment. They adjust their thoughts in a millisecond to be in alignment with who they really want to become. Action: Note down what triggers you to respond in a certain way and choose what to adjust so that you consciously choose how to show up.
3. Energy. Great leaders know the power of energy and the secret of feeling inner peace. Drop language that drains your energy, and creates separation and lack. Choose language that lightens up your heart and sets you up for more success.
